The most common way of transmitting HIV infection in Kamchatka was named: “Kam 24” news agency

In 2019, 118 new HIV infections were detected in Kamchatka. Among the infected, two children under the age of one year. Experts called common methods of transmitting the virus.

“The incidence rate per 100 thousand population for newly identified cases was 37.5 and increased by 1.9% compared with 2018 (plus 1 case). The dynamics of detecting new cases of HIV infection indicates a decrease in growth rates in the territory of Kamchatka, ”said Kam 24 news agency in the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor.

The department noted that 108 infected were residents of Kamchatka, 7 were residents of other regions of Russia, three were citizens of Uzbekistan.

For the year in the province, 85,492 people were examined for HIV infection (more than 27% of the region’s population). 72 men, 44 women and two children under the age of one year were infected.

“Among the newly diagnosed HIV-positive people prevail at the age of 31-40 years, which amounted to 40.7% (48 people), in second place people at the age of 41-50 years old – 23.7% (28 cases), in third place persons aged 21-30 years – 16.1% (19 people). The proportion of people from the oldest age group 51-70 years old was 14.4% (17 cases). The smallest share was made up of persons under the age of 1 year – 1.7% (2 children) and persons 18-20 years old – 3.4% (4 cases), ”the Rospotrebnadzor specified.

According to the agency, in 2019, as in previous years, heterosexual contacts were the most common route of transmission of the virus (59.3%); the second most popular method is drug injections (37.3%); in third place are homosexual and vertical routes of infection (1.7% each).

In 2019, births were registered in 12 HIV-infected women (in 2018 there were 9 such births). All children born to HIV-infected mothers are taken under medical observation.
