NEW YORK – Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that the Mets’ home in Queens will serve as one of the mass vaccination centers for COVID-19.
He Citi Field It will be a 24/7 vaccination site starting Monday, January 25, and is expected to have the capacity to serve up to 7,000 people per day.
So far New York City has administered more than 212,000 first doses and almost 20,000 second doses. About 27,000 people received the dose on Monday, the first day the process was opened to category 1B, the mayor said Tuesday.
“The Mets are taking him out of the park today,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. “By making Citi Field a 24/7 vaccination site is taking a step forward for New Yorkers across our city. “
“Alex and I have talked about the importance of the Mets being actively involved in our community and we are happy to help,” said Mets owner Steve Cohen. “Partnership with the mayor and the city to open Citi Field as a 24/7 vaccination site will help more people get vaccinated faster as part of the city’s recovery from COVID-19. “
That number is expected to grow sharply over the next two weeks to meet the mayor’s goal of administering 1 million first doses by the end of January. The city has established more than 160 vaccine access points to date, including 24/7 centers, and plans to reach 250 sites by the end of the month, according to Blasio.
The city’s first 24/7 vaccination sites in Brooklyn and The Bronx plan to vaccinate up to 2,000 people per day at each location. The sites opened on Sunday, January 10, and are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Seventeen city sites open across all five boroughs this week, and the state opens a mass vaccination site at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Wednesday. Overall, there are about 160 sites in the five boroughs.
