The members of the COPLA Plan made 333 assistances on the beaches of Águilas in July | Radio Lorca

The Surveillance and Rescue Plan in Beaches and Rescue in the Sea of ​​the Region of Murcia (PLAN COPLA), carried out a total of 333 assistances during the month of July. This represents a decrease of 71.63% of the performances, in relation to the same period of the previous year (1,174 attendances).

In the 14 supervised beaches of the aquiline coast; Calabardina, Hornillo beach, Delicias I and Delicias II, Levante beach, La Colonia, Poniente I and Poniente II, Casica Verde, Matalentisco, La Cabaña, Calarreona, La Higuerica and La Carolina, 43 people had to be rescued from the water who had difficulty getting out of the sea. Likewise, 5 boats and 4 other floating elements were assisted, with problems returning to shore.

Marine animal bites carry the highest number of assists with 123, followed by general wounds with 66 cures. In relation to social services activities, 59 collaborations were made to the adapted bathroom, preparing amphibious chairs, with the strictest hygienic sanitary measures by Covid-19. Disinfection of tools, social awareness about the coronavirus and the distribution of hydroalcoholic gel and masks were new tasks and activities for the COPLA 2020 rescuers.

In relation to the influx of the public to the beaches, a minimum decrease was registered on very specific days, although it is true that a percentage higher than 8% is not appreciated in relation to the statistics of other years. In general, the rules of distancing and coexistence adopted by the health and municipal authorities were respected, without registering any notable incident for this reason.

During this period, two people died, one of them on an unsupervised beach, Playa Amarilla, and the other at night on Matalentisco beach.
