The majority of Riga residents would like to ban the use of public parking lots, according to survey data

As part of the study, the attitude of Riga residents towards the rental of electric scooters was ascertained. 57% of respondents admitted that they would vote to ban the rental of electric scooters if given the opportunity. On the other hand, 29% would vote against banning scooters, while 14% of respondents admitted that it was difficult for them to answer this question.

Women, respondents who are 45 years old and older, respondents with secondary education, respondents without Latvian citizenship, employees in the public sector, research participants with low or medium-high incomes, as well as those living in the suburbs of Kurzeme supported banning the rental of electric scooters more often.

On the other hand, men, respondents aged between 18 and 34, respondents with basic or higher education, research participants with high incomes, as well as those living in the Center district, Zemgale suburb and Ziemelu district were more often against the banning of renting electric scooters.

The survey was conducted in the summer of 2023, surveying 813 residents of Riga.

As reported, the Riga City Council last week supported speed and parking restrictions for shared electric scooters.

The first speed and parking restrictions for electric scooters are planned to be introduced in Riga from May.

The first zone, which is planned to be introduced, will be in Old Riga. It will have a speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour. Micromobility tools also cannot be left anywhere, but placed only in specially marked places.
