A tunnel dug under the border between Mexico and United States was discovered by Mexican police last August. After several years of investigation by the authorities of the two countries, the passage turned out to be the longest of this type ever discovered in the United States.
It stretches for 1.3 km between San Diego and Tijuana Airport, at Mexico. The item is 1.60 m high and 60 cm wide. According to American border police officers, it is also the “most sophisticated [qu’ils aient] never seen, “reports the Los Angeles Times.

The “Baja Metro”
The tunnel is in fact fitted with rails for moving goods trolleys, ventilation and drainage systems as well as electric cables. It also has a elevator at the entrance level. The investigators took the time to draw up a map of the entire construction despite the lack of oxygen, standing water and the narrowness of the site.

The passage, nicknamed “Baja Metro”, was intended for the traffic of drug. The police did not specify the exact location of the exit on the American side. The name of
cartel using the passage has also not been released. “At the time of its discovery, the tunnel no longer led directly to the United States, but there is a lot of evidence that the tunnel was previously operational,” said a border police officer.
