The long-awaited drama “I’ll Call You Madara” will finally be on stage at the Playwrights’ Theater

In April, the audience will finally see the production of Hermann Paukks’ psychological drama “Let’s Call You Madara”, directed by Dramaturg Theater actor and director Arturs Zemdega.

“The first rehearsals of the show took place in September 2019. But then came the time of a pandemic, when it was not possible to fully focus on staging this play – restrictions, changes in composition, illnesses. As a result, there is currently only one person left from the original line-up. But the process of rehearsal itself was interesting – both with its positive moments and with moments when my hands dropped. But together with the actors, we have hopefully done a good job of showing Hermann’s play to the audience, ”says A. Zemdega.

This production is A. Zemdega’s second work in the field of directing – previously the production of H.Paukšs’ play “How to Get to Grandchildren” by his director was shown at the Dramaturg Theater. Playwrights’ theater actors Dita Kreicberga, Elizabete Lībiete, Austris Pirktiņš, Oskars Kreceris, Inese Pavēne, Inese Vāciete, Līva Freimane, Lolita Goldberga, Viktorija Žuravļova will take part in the production of the play “I’ll Call You Madara”.

After Madara marries her beloved Oscar, the two move to live with their young wife’s mother. Over time, the disagreement between Oscar and Madara’s mother Laura goes so far that Oscar decides to move out, but Laura is convinced that he will stay and start a completely different relationship with Laura. Laura’s girlfriend Nancy, who has Laura’s permission to say the most secret things, soon joins this triangle.

It should be noted that the Playwrights’ Theater is the only theater in Latvia where only works by contemporary Latvian authors are staged.
