The Link Between Cholesterol and Leg Pain: Symptoms of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

JAKARTA – Cholesterol is a dangerous disease, which sometimes can not only attack old people but also young people. Messy diet, rest and exercise can be one of the causes of cholesterol, not only from hereditary causes.

For those of you who have symptoms of cholesterol, you must be careful, especially if you have a family history. Well, cholesterol causes many symptoms in various parts of the body, one of which is the feet. However, sometimes not many people know about this condition and sufferers often ignore it.

As reported on the Express page, Saturday (30/9/2023), Abbas Kanani as a pharmacist at Chemist Click Online Pharmacy said that symptoms of high cholesterol in the legs could be peripheral artery disease (PAD).

This condition can occur when plaque builds up on the walls of arteries, blocking blood flow in the arteries that supply blood to the legs and feet, as well as the kidneys, arms and stomach.

“The first symptom of this condition, which is caused by too much cholesterol, is pain in the legs when walking, which usually disappears after a few minutes of rest,” said Kanani.

Medically, continued Kanani, this condition is called intermittent claudication, which tends to attack both legs at the same time.

However, it is not unusual if you experience more pain in one leg than the other.

“The pain can vary from mild to severe and tends to stop after a few minutes when you rest your foot,” he said.

The following are other symptoms of PAD high cholesterol in the legs, including:

1. Hug

2. Pain

3. Fatigue

4. Pain in the legs when exercising

5. Discomfort in the legs and feet. ***
