PRAGUE The creators of the theatrical production Meda about the life of patron and collector Meda Mládková plan to present a play about Jan Werich next summer. The well-known actor directed by Adéla Stodolová Laštovková will be played at a young age by Vojtěch Kotek, and at an advanced age by Václav Kopta. The theatrical performance Werich should be staged on the Summer Stage of the Kampa Museum from June 14, 2021. The creators told journalists today.

“Everyone in this republic knows who Jan Werich was, but only a handful have any more detailed information about him. That is why we decided to present the life story of this acting legend in the performance, which has the ambition to look at Jan Werich into his rich inner world, “said Daniela Sodomová, producer and author of the performance Werich.
Sodomová and Stodolová Laštovková were also behind the production of Meda, which was created last year on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the collector and founder of the Kampa Museum, Meda Mládková. Today, the museum also manages the villa in which Jan Werich lived until his death in 1980. In 2015, the Museum leased it and set up a permanent V + W exhibition there.
The creators of the planned information told reporters today that the script was just being created and announced the cast. Together with Vojtěch Kotek and Václav Kopta, paintings from Werich’s life on stage will be enlivened by Jan Nedbal, Jan Vápeník, Berenika Kohoutová, Pavla Beretová, Matouš Ruml, Dan Šváb, Tereza Marečková, Vanda Chaloupková, Jiří Maryško and Dan Vlas. The author of the scenography, Marek Cpin, expects a significant involvement of videomapping.
“Jan Werich – this is a term in the Czech Republic that is more reminiscent of an institution or something similarly important, such as Mount Říp. It’s simply a challenge and I like you at least as much as I’ve always had and I still like Jan Werich. As a little boy, my father took me with him to the mysterious and legendary house in Kampa several times. Even in a dream, it never occurred to me at that time that the circle would close so beautifully and symbolically, “said Kopta about his cast.
During the holidays, the play Meda should also return to the Summer Stage of the Kampa Museum. Concerts will be a novelty in the Summer Stage program of the Kampa Museum. The first confirmed is Vlasta Redl’s concert on July 22.
