New media awards “Kilograms of Culture 2020” have just started autumn vote! Meanwhile, its jury continues to evaluate cultural events in Latvia and prepares a selection of recommendations for LSM.lv readers every week. This week, four cultural events were chosen by jury member Gunda Vaivode. –

Button, Liepins, Leimane, LNSO

There are several reasons to go to the season-opening concert of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra on Thursday: it is usually an event in itself; Andris Poga will be at the conductor’s desk, who is already in Stavanger with his thoughts and works, but with his heart here – at his orchestra.

Soloist Daumants Liepiņš, who will play Prokofiev, is the great hope of today’s young pianists, whose talent is also convinced by those professors who have received him in the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel.

And, of course, a new work by LNSO residency composer Linda Leiman “Longing. Flashing. Bonding.”

Autumn music – Wax, Beethoven

On October 2, the famous “Artemis Quartet” will visit Liepāja and on October 3 in Dzintari, the first violin of which is the first violin Vineta Sareika. Playing together and being as intimate as a quartet is a great happiness today! But if, in addition to this simple joy of playing, there is an opportunity to get closer to the great music of Beethoven (15th string quartet) and premiere Peter Vaska (Sixth String Quartet), then for these concerts has the potential to become a big autumn holiday.

Chekhov’s “Seagull” – Rezekne’s “Jorika”

The “Players’ Night” jury has made it clear to us that good things happen in many “small” theaters. One of them is Rezekne’s “Joriks”, in which Chekhov’s sad story about love and art “Seagull”, which the author once called a comedy, has just been staged.

What will be the setting of director Mārtiņš Eihes, you have to go to Rēzekne on September 30 or October 1.

In addition the show is bilingual – in Latvian and Russian. The intrigue – the final in each show, will probably be different. As Mikhail Gruzdov acknowledged: “This is perhaps the only play about art that is worth returning to again and again.”

Artūrs Skrastiņa Mirror

Sixteen years have been made a bookwhich has just reached its readers. In the year of the 100th anniversary of the Daile Theater, a book by theater critic Līvija Dūmiņa about one of the leading actors of this theater, Artūras Skrastiņš, has been published.

He has been playing on the stage of Daile Theater for 25 years, and the book “Artūrs Skrastiņa Spogulija” reveals the actor’s path to it. The extensive work is praised by both the protagonist of the book and his wife. The 366 pages can be read without interruption, as the setting – to be open – has allowed the author to create an exciting portrait of the actor and time with some good bold confessions. The book also contains photographs and drawings by Ilze Vītoliņa.
