The latest Kantar polls for “Fakty” TVN and TVN24

On Monday, we published polls made by Kantar for “Fakty” TVN and TVN24. They concerned Poland’s presence in the European Union, support for political groups, as well as abortion, street demonstrations and the police response to protests. We present a summary of the results of these studies.

At the request of “Fakt” TVN and TVN24, the Kantar studio conducted polls in which they asked respondents about issues related to Poland’s presence in the European Union, the right to abortion in the event of severe and irreversible fetal impairment or an incurable disease that threatens its life, and the evaluation of protests after the judgment of the Constitutional Tribunal , tightening the abortion law, and the police’s reaction to recent protests and support for political groups.

We present a list of the polls published on Monday.

The presence of Poland in the European Union

The respondents heard, inter alia, the question: “What is your opinion on the presence of Poland in the European Union? Do you think Poland should …”.

According to the survey, 87 percent of respondents believe that Poland should remain in the European Union. 8 percent of the respondents were of the opposite opinion. “I don’t know / hard to say” was answered by 5 percent of the respondents.

Another question asked of the respondents was: “Do you think the PiS government policy can lead to Poland leaving the European Union?”.

A total of 49 percent of respondents answered “yes”, of which 20 percent answered “definitely yes” and 29 percent “rather yes”. A total of 40 percent of those questioned were of the opposite opinion, 11 percent of whom answered “definitely not” and 29 percent answered “probably not”. The answer “I don’t know / hard to say” was indicated by 11 percent of the respondents.

Right to abortion and protests after the ruling of the Constitutional Tribunal

In a survey by Kantar for “Fakt” TVN and TVN24, the respondents also heard the following question: “The Constitutional Tribunal a few weeks ago ruled that the provisions permitting abortion due to severe and irreversible damage to the fetus are inconsistent with the Constitution. Thus, the Tribunal questioned the right of women to abortion. in these situations. In your opinion, in the case of a high probability of severe and irreversible impairment of the fetus or an incurable disease that threatens its life … “.

The vast majority of respondents – 81 percent – indicated the answer: “women should have the right to have an abortion”. 10 percent of the respondents answered: “women should not be allowed to have an abortion”. The answer “I don’t know / hard to say” was given by 9 percent of the respondents.

In the survey, respondents were also asked about the protests that had lasted since the ruling was issued by the Constitutional Tribunal, that is from October 22nd. They heard the question: “After the Constitutional Court’s decision on abortion, there are protests in many cities. How do you assess them?“.

59 percent of those polled said they supported them, with 38 percent saying they “strongly support” the protests and 21 percent said they “rather support” them.

In total, 35 percent of those questioned said they did not support the protests, with 22 percent responding “strongly disapprove” and 13 percent “rather disapproving”. 6 percent of the respondents answered: “I don’t know, it’s hard to say”.

Police reaction during protests

In the Kantar study, the respondents also heard the following question: “Do you think that the police response to the recent protests was appropriate?”.

59 percent of those polled answered “no”, 36 percent of which said “definitely not” and 23 percent said “probably not”. According to 24 percent of respondents, the police response was appropriate, with 12 percent responding “definitely yes” and another 12 percent “probably yes.”

17 percent of the respondents answered “I don’t know / hard to say”.

Party poll

The respondents were asked about which party would they vote for if the Sejm elections were held in the near future.

27 percent declared that they would vote for the joint list of the United Right, i.e. Law and Justice, Agreement and Solidarity Poland. 25 percent of the respondents would vote for the Civic Coalition, formed by the Civic Platform, Nowoczesna, Poland and the Greens Initiative.

Szymon Hołownia’s movement Poland 2050 was declared by 14 percent of respondents. The Left (8 percent of the vote) and the Confederation (7 percent) would also get to the Sejm.

In the case of all the above surveys, a telephone survey for “Fakt” TVN and TVN24 was carried out by Kantar on November 20-23, 2020 on a nationwide, representative sample of 1003 adult people.
