The judge decides in the case of Esmee’s death (14) | Interior

The court in The Hague will rule on Monday in the case against 33-year-old Olivier van de G., suspected of abusing and murdering 14-year-old Esmee. The Public Prosecutor (OM) requested a fourteen-year prison sentence and TBS with compulsory treatment. Van de G. is also suspected of having taken away Esmee’s body and of possessing child pornography.

The gym teacher admitted that he had a sexual relationship with the girl from Hazerswoude-Rijndijk in South Holland and that she came to his house in Leiden. On December 30, 2021, according to the suspect, they had a fight. According to the prosecutor’s office, the girl died of strangulation. Van de G. says he can’t remember this moment.

The Leiden resident confessed that he then carried the body out of the apartment. He initially placed the girl’s body out of sight against a tree near her home. He then used Esmee’s bike to move her body once more.

The victim was found on December 31 by a group of athletes on a playground on Melchior Treublaan in Leiden. Van de G. had already been beaten twice by the police the night before and was arrested in the afternoon.

Experts from the Pieter Baan Center have concluded that Van de G. has a personality disorder and a deviant sexual preference. She would like twelve to sixteen year olds. According to experts, the killing of Esmee can be attributed to him to a lesser extent.

In addition to the prison sentence and the TBS order, the prosecutor requested a five-year professional disqualification for the positions of sports teacher. Van de G.’s attorney, Job Knoester, called the fourteen-year prison sentence “disproportionate.” He finds it “extremely imprudent to postpone TBS treatment for so long” by first imposing a prison sentence on his client.
