(EFE).- The Israeli Army announced this Sunday that its troops have found more than 800 tunnel openings in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of its ground offensive in the enclave at the end of October and that about 500 have been destroyed.
“Since the beginning of ground operations in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Defense Forces soldiers have located more than 800 Hamas underground tunnel entrances,” announced the military spokesperson, detailing that around 500 of them ” were destroyed using various operational methods.”
“Some of the tunnel mouths connected Hamas’ strategic assets through the network of underground tunnels,” the Army added in a statement, specifying that “many kilometers of tunnels have been destroyed.”
In addition, he denounced that “the mouths of the tunnels were located in civilian areas” and some even inside “civilian structures such as schools, daycare centers, mosques and playgrounds”, something that he assured was “further proof of how Hamas deliberately uses the civilian population and infrastructure as a cover for their terrorist activity inside Gaza.

On the other hand, according to the Army spokesperson, the troops located “large quantities of weapons” in some tunnels.
Israel declared war on Hamas on October 7 following an attack by the Islamist group, which included the launching of more than 4,000 rockets and the infiltration of some 3,000 militants, who killed some 1,200 people and kidnapped more than 240 in nearby Israeli communities. to Gaza.
Israeli forces have since attacked the Palestinian enclave, where more than 15,000 people have already died, according to Palestinian authorities, most of them children and women, and it is estimated that more than 7,000 people are missing under the rubble.
Since the beginning of the Israeli ground offensive in Gaza, 72 soldiers have been killed and hundreds wounded.
