The IONITY network in Italy is growing: 10 charging stations are operational

The IONITY network in Italy is growing. In fact, another high-power charging station was activated: it is that of Palermo located in via Ernesto Basile. There are two 350 kW columns currently available. This infrastructure is in addition to those already active on the Italian territory and which are located in Binasco, Montecchio Maggiore, Forlì, Rinovo Nord, Ceriale Sud, Brugnato Ovest, Brennero, Carpi and Valdichiana Outlet Village.

The expansion of the charging network for electric cars it does not stop there since currently 7 more stations are under construction and precisely in Agira, Potenza, Monselice, Versilia Ovest, Trento, Piacenza and Portugruaro. However, the project for Italy envisages the construction of further 13 stations. At the moment, however, it is not yet known where they will be located. IONITY, remember, is one joint venture born in 2017 thanks to some manufacturers including BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen Group e aims to place 400 charging stations on the entire European territory by the end of 2020. There are currently 264 active and a further 48 are under construction.

Seen the lockdown which has paralyzed operations for a few months, it is not clear whether the target of the end of 2020 will be met, but the works are now proceeding rapidly. All the columns have a CCS Combo connector 2 and offer a power up to 350 kW. The goal of this network is to facilitate long-distance travel. From a certain point of view, IONITY can be seen as the answer to Tesla’s Superchargers.

In the absence of preferential rates, such as those offered by some partners, recharging is charged € 0.79 per kWh.
