JAKARTA, celebrities.id – Cancer fighter need support. Not only supportive therapy to achieve healing, but enthusiasm and support from loved ones too cancer community.
This is what Linda Agum Gumelar, Chairman of the Foundation, is trying to convey Cancer Breasts of Indonesia, that cancer fighters really need support from their environment to achieve a complete recovery. The existence of support even becomes a ‘Fire’ to keep the spirit alive.
“The cancer community has a very important role, because they are able to listen directly to input from cancer survivors, cancer fighters, or the wider community,” said Linda while speaking at the Cancer Community Festival 2022 initiated by Kalbe, some time ago.
Not only that, Linda continued, with the role of the cancer community, it also tries to help the government by providing information, reports, and suggestions for issuing cancer-related policies that prioritize patient safety.
“The process of developing a nation cannot only be in the hands of the government, but also all communities need to help. Well, the role of this community is very strategic to be a bridge to the government and to assist cancer fighters and survivors,” he said.
“In fact, the cancer community is needed for the wider community to spread education about cancer prevention, so that people can be more literate about cancer which in turn has an impact on public awareness for early detection,” he said.
This was also conveyed by OneOnco Kalbe Leader, Dr. Selvinna, M.Biomed, that by increasing public literacy about cancer, including the importance of early detection of cancer, this could minimize the number of severe cancer cases that were detected for the first time.
“We encourage people to have good literacy on early cancer detection, including treatment cancer patient. The presence of the community can help spread the message, so that a meaningful support system is created in the community,” said Dr Selvinna.
This is also in line with the government’s task, in this case the Ministry of Health, to educate the public regarding the importance of this detection and other preventive efforts related to cancer.
“The presence of the cancer community has a role to play in health promotion, so that people know, want, and are able to do cancer prevention,” said Dr. Aldrin Neilwan Panca Putra, Head of the Sub Directorate Cancer and Blood Disorders Ministry of Health.
“In addition, the cancer community is also able to provide special protection, for example cervical cancer with the HPV vaccine. And no less important is educating the public about early detection and standardized treatment,” he said.
