The Impact of Sleep Duration on Heart Disease Development and Premature Death

Scientists have determined the effect of sleep duration on the development of heart disease and the risk of premature death. CDI.

According to research by specialists from the European Society of Cardiology, there is an optimal sleep time for human health. The results of the work of scientists are published on the portal of the society.

During the study, specialists studied the relationship between sleep duration and the development of cardiovascular diseases. To do this, scientists analyzed survey data from 1 million people with a healthy heart.

The examined patients were divided into three groups: in the first group, people slept more than 8 hours a day, in the second – from 6 to 8 hours, in the third – less than 6 hours.

It turned out that the risk of stroke and coronary heart disease increases by 11% with less than six hours of sleep. At the same time, with a sleep duration of more than eight hours, such risks are 33% higher.

The researchers concluded that both lack of sleep and oversleeping affect the likelihood of dying from heart disease.

“Short sleep intervals are unlikely to cause serious harm to health, but oversleeping must be avoided. Proper sleep is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, ”RIA Novosti quotes the words of the author of the study, Epaiminondas Fontas.
