The German police are still looking for the lioness that is loose in Berlin. The animal has been searched for hours with, among other things, an armored car, helicopter and drones.
Agents have been searching since midnight, but no trace of the lioness has yet been found. The Berlin Police reports that the animal may be in Zehlendorf, a neighborhood on the southwest edge of the city.
Five hunters with stun guns join the search. Veterinarians are also present. Authorities want to catch the predator in an “animal-friendly way”.
The lioness would have been seen on the night from Wednesday to Thursday along a road in Kleinmachnow, a municipality close to Berlin. After eyewitnesses saw the predator attacking a wild boar, the police launched a search. Since then, several reports have been received about the animal. Officers also spotted the lioness twice.
Police are urging tens of thousands of people in the suburbs of Kleinmachnov, Stahnsdorf and Teltow not to leave their homes. Pets must also stay indoors.

Where does the lioness come from?
It is still unclear where the animal came from. German media speculate that the lioness escaped from a circus, but the police are keeping all possibilities open.
Agents check zoos, circuses and animal shelters, but so far no lion is missing. In Berlin it is forbidden for citizens to keep a lion.
In the state of Brandenburg, on the other hand, this is possible, because there is no regulation there. The suburbs where the police are looking are all three in that state.
