In an opinion made public this Friday, the High Authority for Health (HAS) says it is “favorable” to maintaining the obligation to vaccinate against Covid-19 for caregivers, considering that “the data are not such as to call into question this vaccination obligation” for caregivers in health establishments and nursing homes.
“In response to a referral from the Minister for Health, the HAS issues a favorable opinion on maintaining the obligation to vaccinate against Covid-19 for personnel working in health and medico-social establishments”, she wrote in her press release. The High Authority justifies its decision by “the dynamic epidemic context”, “the uncertainties about the evolution of the epidemic in the coming months” and on “the effectiveness of a complete vaccination schedule in reducing the risk of becoming infected and transmitting the disease.”
Firstly, the HAS therefore considers that “the current context marked by a new epidemic wave due to the BA.5 sub-lineage of the Omicron variant” justifies the maintenance of the vaccination obligation for caregivers. Secondly, the authority evokes “the availability of safe and effective vaccines against the Omicron variant” who “participate in limiting the spread of the epidemic”.
This reintegration of non-vaccinated caregivers is a request from the opposition to the presidential majority, in particular from the National Rally and from France insubordinate, but also from certain members of the Republicans. After the “firm opposition” of the Academy of Medicine on Tuesday, the Scientific Council, which is due to disappear on July 31, declared itself “Reserve” on the return of these caregivers who do not have vaccination coverage, recalling that the 7th wave of the Covid-19 epidemic remains “very present”.
This Friday on franceinfo, the president of the Scientific Council Jean-François Delfraissy believed that this question concerned “a very small number of people”, referring to 75 doctors and pharmacists and between 2,000 and 3,000 nurses and nursing assistants suspended.
