A bit like what we had done at Lolyawe interfered in the intimacy of the Gravette market Friday, March 31, 2023. A short moment out of time to realize that there is a beautiful atmosphere there.

“The atmosphere is like Thursday: really nice. Then there’s the tide, a mattress seller, plants, poultry… It’s very comprehensive,” emphasizes Pascal Domenech.

« It’s really a good market. Between traders, we all get on well, we stick together,” agrees Marie, a fishmonger. Moreover, his role is essential according to his colleagues. ” Fish is a real plus. People, on Fridays, buy them. It’s a habit,” confirms Christine Gay, fruit and vegetable seller.

For the record, the latter is the oldest of the traders at La Gravette on Friday mornings. “I took over from my mother. But I would say that this market is well over 30 years old she says, giving change to her client.

Solidarity between traders

Christophe Papa, poultry farmer at the Ladeveze farm, is also a big fan of this weekly event.

“I’ve been here for over 4 years. My wife is under the halls in Marmande. And we realize that the markets are working better. The fact that we’re only there once a week helps,” he says, who sells turkey, chicken, ducklings, guinea fowl and even rabbit.

Still, all the market gardeners get along particularly well. “You know, we are a big family. We are also friends of our regular customers. As soon as there is a problem in any case, the others are there to help,” says Marie-Christiane Testut.

As soon as they have a moment, they meet to discuss, to laugh, to spend friendly moments. And even to eat. “It’s our breakfast,” smiles Pascal Domenech, cooking pieces of marinated chicken on his little plancha, which he is going to share with his colleagues.

The contribution of the bakery

There is no shortage of regulars at La Gravette. And yet, for a short time, some were absent. “The closure of the bakery, we felt it pass” admits Marie-Christiane. Observation shared by Christophe Papa: “This little market is good, but even better since the bakery reopened”.

This kind of small gathering is very different from the bigger markets such as Tonneins, Casteljaloux or Marmande on Saturdays to name but a few. The atmosphere is appreciable and that is why customers return there every week. Not to mention that the place has a car park so you don’t have to park far away…

In short, the perfect combo for an exceptional Friday morning.
