The government is considering the possibility of introducing compulsory vaccination in certain professions – in Latvia

In the week after the Christmas week, the vaccination rate continues to increase. In the LTV program “Morning Panorama”, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš admitted that one third of the Latvian population who had wanted to receive a pot had received it. At the moment, it is necessary to address people who have not yet decided.

The Prime Minister said that the idea of vaccinating certain professions in order to work in a specific position is currently being considered. As an example, he mentioned that they could be doctors, social care workers, teachers, police officers. Those people who have very close contact with strangers in the daily work process.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that all ministries and involved experts are currently working on how to attract and address people to go vaccinations.

“We have the next challenge – to address the next section of society, which is more than 40% who are not against vaccination, but have not yet figured it out.”

Kariņš emphasized that summer is the perfect time to go to receive the vaccine. At present, the incidence of Covid-19 in the country is declining, long queues are no longer visible in vaccination centers, and there are about half a million doses of vaccines in public warehouses.

The Prime Minister draws attention to the fact that although the morbidity rates are decreasing, the pandemic has not disappeared. Today, the captivating delta or Indian varina is widespread in many parts of the world. Thus, it would be important to go vaccinated to protect the health of yourself and the people around you. Kariņš emphasized that active vaccination will help children return to school benches in September.

“It’s a painless process. He’s easy, free, so our children and grandchildren can go to school.”

Last week, the Minister of Education and Science Anita Muižniece admitted that it is a matter of concern that only 52% of teachers have received pots. However, Kariņš emphasized that this is a very good indicator. The Prime Minister explained that educators were one of the last groups to receive the vaccine as a matter of priority. Thus, the vaccination of teachers takes only two months, so the fact that half of the school staff have been vaccinated is a very good indicator. Kariņš mentioned that it would be necessary to vaccinate the remaining teachers for the next two months.

“I can’t imagine that the learning process could start in the country without a vaccinated teacher.”

In many parts of the world, various bonuses, including money, are offered to motivate people to go vaccinated. Kariņš admitted that the government is unlikely to pay people for vaccinations. He mentioned that one of the motivators could be that vaccinated people currently have a number of benefits that are denied to unvaccinated people.
