The Government Can’t Ban Indonesian Citizens From Going Overseas Even If There Is An Omicron

Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly stated that the government cannot prohibit Indonesian citizens (WNI) from going abroad despite the potential for contracting the corona virus (Covid-19) variant omicron in another country.

“For Indonesians, we can’t really ban them from going outside [negeri]. We cannot absolutely prohibit it because it is guaranteed by law,” Yasonna said in Jakarta, Sunday (9/1).

Although it cannot prohibit Indonesian citizens from going abroad, the government can apply the rules when they return home. Indonesian citizens who have just arrived from other countries must comply with the rules regarding quarantine.

“We can’t ban them, but they must comply with the Covid-19 protocol. They must quarantine according to the provisions,” he said. [tes] PCR, and others,” said Yasonna.

He asked the public to learn from Indonesia’s experience in dealing with the Covid-19 wave in 2021 which had a major impact on the health sector and the economy.

“So we have to cooperate with each other. The community must all work hand in hand with the government to obey health protocols, take care that there are no mass crowds,” he said.

Yasonna explained that the government had taken various anticipatory steps to suppress the spread of the Omicron case. For example, in the form of restrictions on the entry of foreigners, cooperation between institutions, to booster vaccinations.

According to him, the Covid-19 pandemic situation is dynamic so that it encourages the government to continue to be on alert. According to Yasonna, government policies in the context of prevention and handling will continue to adapt to the development of Covid-19.

“We have issued a ministerial decree regarding restrictions on foreigners. We continue to cooperate with the Task Force, the Ministry of Health, relevant ministries, to monitor the development of Omicron,” he said.

So far, there have been 318 cases of the Omicron variant detected in Indonesia. The majority came from foreign travel agents, namely 295 people.

One of the celebrities who tested positive for the Covid-19 variant of the Omicron after traveling abroad was Ashanty. The wife of musician Anang Hermansyah, Ashanty, tested positive for Omicron after a vacation in Turkey with his family some time ago.
