Falling ill or suffering an accident that requires hospital care at this time has become a real problem because, in the circumstances marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, it is most likely that you will have to wait longer than you should. As everyone knows, hospitals, including Francesc de Borja de Gandia, are saturated with work. At the moment a hundred people, of which about twenty of them in ICU wards, are admitted because of the virus.

For this reason, the direction of the Gandia Health Department has made an appeal, widely disseminated by most of the Safor municipalities, requesting citizens that, if it is not strictly necessary, they refrain from going to the hospital.

In the same way, it is reported that companions are not allowed, and visits to the External Consultation area are only made if there is a prior appointment and when the doctors have not been obliged to suspend it, for which the patient.

Faced with this third wave of covid-19, which is showing the worst data since the pandemic began, the Ministry of Health decided to postpone non-urgent surgical operations, in addition to diagnostic tests, except for breast and colon cancer, which it affects most of the hospitals in the Valencian Community.

Villalonga also asks not to go out

The situation in the region is so serious that, as this newspaper reported yesterday, two municipalities, Oliva and Bellreguard, have asked their neighbors to “self-confine” at home and go out only for what is essential. Now this same request has been joined by the Villalonga City Council, a municipality that has registered a considerable increase in coronavirus cases in the town. According to the latest health data, in Villalonga since the beginning of the pandemic there are 87 infected, of which 10 in the last 14 days. Thus, the call to stay home is extended as a recommendation, and in some cases a plea, as a way to stop the spread of the pandemic.

The Barx school has stood up to low temperatures with an original initiative that involves distributing orange juice among schoolchildren. But not just any oranges, but “from Valldigna”, as the city council pointed out yesterday. In this way, the educational community intends for schoolchildren to “be healthy and full of the vitamins that local oranges provide.”

It is an initiative of the teachers and the association of mothers and fathers that aims to “promote healthy eating and, at the same time, strengthen the health of students.

Before the arrival of the cold, the Barx City Council contacted the school to assess the possibility of having some kind of extra shelter for the students, but they were informed of the launch of this peculiar campaign and of the collaboration of the AMPA in the supply of juicers and oranges.

In addition, in the Barx classrooms “the cold is bearable”, highlights the city council, since in 2018 it requested and received a grant from the Generalitat for 80,000 euros for the change of doors, windows and other metal locks. In 2019, he also got another help, in this case from the Valencia Provincial Council, for the change of the heating system.

Thus, although the windows are open, in the classrooms the schoolchildren maintain heating and according to the local government and the management of the center, “the temperature inside the center is acceptable.” Even so, from the consistory, families are encouraged to take all precautions, both against Covid-19, and against the cold wave that these days has especially affected this town, where the thermometers have touched five degrees below zero.

“Air purifiers have been purchased and we are waiting to receive them and they will be installed as soon as possible in each of the classrooms,” said the mayor of Barx, Miguel Donet, who added that “we have worked with due foresight and now we have the classrooms in the best possible conditions under the circumstances. We must not lower our guard and we must be cautious, but we see that our management of foresight and responsibility when it was playing has served to be prepared, as far as school infrastructure is concerned, now that this pandemic has overtaken us.
