The first stage may remain closed in November, Plaga warned

Plaga said Wednesday’s tightening of anti-coronavirus measures, including the closure of schools other than nursery and special schools, should reduce the reproductive number showing how many people get infected on average from one positive test. Now the reproduction number is 1.5, and if, according to Plaga, it does not fall by November 2, the first stage will not open.

The lockdown will have to take place, ie a fundamental reduction in the lives of people and the economy due to the epidemic, the minister emphasized. “If the reproduction number remains, it is a huge disaster and we will not talk at all about the return of children to school,” said Plaga.

The condition is a decrease in the reproduction number

The first stage of primary schools, on the other hand, will open on November 2, if the measures work and the reproduction number will be reduced to about one, Plaga specified. According to him, other schools should return to operation if the reproductive number of coronavirus reaches 0.8.

The opening of the first stage of primary schools on 2 November was also promised by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) on Tuesday after the government meeting. He told a news conference that Prymula had confirmed at a cabinet meeting that the first stage would open on Monday, November 2.

Schools have to move to distance learning from Wednesday, it will last until the end of next week, and then a week-long autumn holiday will follow. In addition to kindergartens and special schools, primary schools for children of police officers, rescuers or social workers will also remain open. Today, they have been designated by the regions so that people in the professions needed to manage the epidemic can remain at work.

He explained the need to close schools by saying that 4,500 teachers and pupils were infected, and pupils and students made up 16 percent of those infected. Recently, according to epidemiologists, children from schools have been transmitting the disease mainly to their families.
