The tiny Ibdaa helicopter should have been flying on Mars for a long time. New efforts will start on Monday – most likely.

Washington. The first helicopter flight over another planet, which has been delayed several times, was supposed to take place as early as Monday.

NASA announced that its next launch attempt was scheduled for Monday morning (6.30am CET). These efforts can also be delayed for a short time.

The first flight of the small “Creativity” helicopter, which landed on the “persistent” rover on Mars in February, was pre-planned for April 11, then delayed until April 14 due to technical problems and then delayed again. NASA says that NASA engineers are currently working on finding a solution to the helicopter software problem. The helicopter, powered by a Li-ion battery, is basically ready to use and in good condition.

1.8 kilograms of “creativity” (German: ingenuity) would rise on the first test flight to a height of about three meters, hover there for thirty seconds and then land again on Mars. This will be the first flight of an airplane to another planet.

Helicopters have to challenge harsh conditions: on Mars it is cold to 90 degrees below zero at night, the planet’s gravity is reduced and the atmosphere is much thinner. Small helicopters are placed in the belly of “perseverance” (German: endurance) at the end of February – after 203 days of flight and 472 million kilometers – by maneuvering risky maneuvers on the dry lake of Mars called “Jezero Crater”. ‘Diligence’ is examining the lake, which has a diameter of about 45 km, for the next two years.
