Big surprise from the streaming platform Disney Plus and Queen B, le film “Black Is King” will come out Next July 31. The one who was awarded the “Humantarian Award” during the BET 2020 ceremony, continue to commit to paying tribute to African culture.
The film is directly inspired by the project “The Lion King: The Gift” released in July 2019, the soundtrack of the new version of “Lion King” in which Beyoncé lent her voice to Nala. On this album, entirely produced and directed by Queen B, many artists have appeared as Childish Gambimo, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Pharrell. But more importantly, Beyoncé had also invited African artists on this project, for example Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Yemi Alade or Burna Boy.
The singer and Disney define “Black is King” comme : “The film is the story of many years to inform and reconstruct the present. A meeting of shared generational cultures and beliefs. The story of how the people who are most broken up have an extraordinary gift and a promising future.” On the other hand, the Disney company explains that Beyoncé will “adapt the lessons instilled in” The Lion King “to the young kings and queens of our days who are in search of their crown. These timeless lessons are revealed and repeated by today’s voices (…) The film highlights the beauty of black tradition and excellence. “
