Evolution of the epidemiological situation

Tuesday March 24
An unprecedented, severe and rapid epidemic according to J. Salomon
On Tuesday March 24, Professor Salomon estimated the number of deaths from Covid-19 at 1100 since the start of the epidemic in the hospital sector, including 240 in yesterday alone. 85% were over 70 years old.
– 22,302 cases confirmed by PCR tests
– More than 10,170 patients have been hospitalized to date, including 2,516 in serious condition and in intensive care. 34% of patients in intensive care are under 60 years of age and 58% between 60 and 80 years of age.

100,000 dead in Ehpad?

186 new deaths of COVID-19 positive patients were reported at the hospital on Monday. The total of deaths thus passes to 860.

Sunday March 22
The number of confirmed cases has now reached 16,018, compared to 14,459 the previous day.
7,240 patients are hospitalized for COVID-19 this Sunday. 1,746 serious cases are in intensive care. 674 deaths on the national territory, including 112 on yesterday.
In Italy, 650 deaths are to be deplored during the day. The worst is yet to come in Spain.
Saturday March 21
The Minister of Health estimates the number of real cases between 30,000 and 90,000 on the national territory
This Saturday, March 21, 2020, there are 14,459 cases confirmed by PCR test. Hospital surveillance identifies 6,172 people hospitalized, including 1,525 serious cases, in intensive care. 562 people died in hospital. Severe forms are observed even in young adults: 50% of people hospitalized in intensive care are less than 60 years old.
According to the DGS, we are rapidly evolving towards a generalized epidemic on the territory. Many uncertainties remain as much about the behavior of the virus as about the impact of individual and collective barrier measures (strict confinement, respect for the distance of one meter between people), which are still imperfectly applied. One thing is certain, serious cases and deaths can be avoided by being very respectful of the instructions.
Containment measures are in place for a minimum of 15 days. The extension of containment will depend on the observance of the application of containment by the population and the evolution of the epidemic situation.
Currently, more than 4,000 tests are performed each day and the capacities are not saturated. Over 60,000 tests have already been carried out.

People who are fragile, at risk, hospitalized, residents of collective accommodation of people at risk and health professionals, new homes or territories are systematically tested.
“We must all strictly observe the confinement instructions, the barrier measures (very regular hand washing) and the minimum distance of one meter between people on the street, in queues, in transport, at work, reduce massively our contacts throughout the day.“
Doctors should prioritize remote care as much as possible, in the interest of patients who are homebound and can call their doctor, and to protect caregivers. As of March 21 and throughout the duration of the epidemic, telemedicine and teleconsultation are fully supported.

Wednesday March 18
9,134 cases confirmed by PCR, 264 deaths, 89 more than the day before. 931 patients in intensive care.

Tuesday March 17
7,730 confirmed cases and 175 deaths in France. 600 patients in intensive care.
Containment is established from midday. An attestation of honor is required for essential travel.

Monday March 16
A total of 6,633 confirmed cases and 148 deaths have been reported
A new package to limit the spread of the epidemic is announced by President Macron:
· Travel will be limited from March 17 to what is strictly necessary with financial penalties for offenders
· The borders of the Schengen area are closed and travel between non-European countries and the European Union will be suspended
· A new mask distribution policy has been introduced.
· A minimum daycare service for the caregivers’ children is implemented.
In the evening of March 15, 923 new cases for a total of 5,423. 36 new deaths were reported, bringing the total to 127. 400 people are hospitalized in serious condition.
With the first cases recorded in Ariège and Indre, there is no longer a French department without positive cases for COVID-19.
For Pr SALOMON, the situation is very worrying. He stressed in the morning on France Inter the importance of respecting barrier measures such as hand washing and also social distancing in order to stem the epidemic.

Tuesday March 10, 3 new deaths and 372 additional positive cases were announced by the DGS. The number of cumulative cases was 1,784 and the number of deaths was 33.

Stage 3 inevitable but not yet pronounced
Professor SALOMON recalled that:
– 98% of patients with Covid-19 recover
– “80% to 85% of the forms remain benign”,
– “there are still many scientific uncertainties about this virus” unlike that of the flu, which kills 10,000 a year.
“It is not a flu, el COVID-19 can give serious forms on people not that old” Pr Salomon.
According to Pr Salomon’s press conference, 9 new deaths and 286 new cases linked to Covid-19 were listed on Monday March 9 by Public Health France. This brings the number of deaths to 30 and 1,412 confirmed cases.
France is currently in stage 2 of the management of COVID-19 Coronavirus infection. To date, the virus is present in certain territories and circulates, even if it is not present everywhere in the territory.
In the Oise and Haut-Rhin regions, the virus is circulating and progressing with great intensity, stage 2 measures have been reinforced and the health care system has been adapted.

300,000 students deprived of school in France, 300 million worldwide
All schools are closed in the departments of Oise and Haut-Rhin. Dozens of nurseries, schools, colleges, high schools, medical and educational institutions and university sites are also affected by temporary closings in Corsica, the Paris region, or the south. Protests of more than 1000 people banned

Maintaining stage 2, the transition to stage 3 inexorable
