Today marks the return of the Easter excursions with most of them as many chose to take advantage of today as well, due to the transfer of the May Day holiday.
Due to the increased traffic of excursionists, both the staff and the means of the Hellenic Police, mainly the Traffic Police Services, are on increased operational readiness, while increased measures have been taken throughout the country’s road network, with the aim of the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of traffic accidents.
Vehicle traffic in Athens-Corinth is particularly high. The problems start from Corinth with vehicles moving at low speeds to Megara.

The Traffic Police estimate that as time passes, the traffic will increase and is expected to ease up late in the evening. According to the traffic data, from 6 am yesterday to 6 am today, a total of 112,975 cars passed through both national networks (65,756 from Athens-Corinth and 47,219 from Athens-Lamia).
It is noted that this is the largest exit since the time of the pandemic, as only approximately 90,000 travelers departed from the port of Piraeuswhile approximately 700,000 I.X. departed from Attica.
Already early in the morning, the first ships from Crete and the Aegean islands began to arrive, with the first estimates saying that they will arrive in total during the day around 24,300 passengers.
The return of excursions from Thessaloniki is also underway
The return of Easter excursions from the region to Thessaloniki is underway. Increased vehicle traffic has been recorded since 12 noon both at the N. Malgari toll road on PATHE and at the Analipsi toll road on Egnatia Odos, while traffic is running smoothly on the national road that connects Thessaloniki with Halkidiki.
Earlier, at the height of N. Malgari, traffic delays were observed due to a collision of three vehicles (in the direction of Thessaloniki) with only material damage. According to the Traffic Police, the vehicles involved are on the edge of the roadway and the incident is being recorded.
At the scene of the accident, traffic regulations have recently been applied due to work being carried out on the Axios bridge (in the entrance stream). Given the increased traffic due to the return of excursionists (expected to peak in the next few hours), this particular stretch of road is expected to be congested.

The weather is expected to be sunny today with sparse clouds appearing at intervals, which in the afternoon hours are expected to thicken in the central and northern highlands. Rains and possibly isolated storms will occur in the mountains of Macedonia and Thrace. In the evening, the clouds will also thicken in the west. In the morning the visibility in the west will be limited in places.
In Attica, there will be sparse clouds, winds up to 4 Beaufort and the temperature will reach up to 28 degrees Celsius.
