The Dorven in the Department, the municipal elections in Mainvilliers canceled … A look back at the major political episodes in Eure-et-Loir

Christophe Le Dorven (LR) was elected president of the Departmental Council of Eure-et-Loir

When we come back to the various events that marked the Eurelian political scene in 2021, it is difficult not to focus on the departmental elections, organized on June 20 and 27.

The day after the second round, the thirty seats of the Eurelian hemicycle are occupied by elected representatives from the right and from the center-right. A now unicoloured assembly, or almost. A first under the Fifth Republic. Still represented by a pair (Lucé), between 2015 and 2021, the left no longer has any elected. The RN, qualified for nine second-round duels, did not weigh in any of the cantons where he was on waivers.

Fratricidal struggle between elected representatives of the right

After this second round and before the election of the president, the right and center-right departmental majority, “Territoires d’Eure-et-Loir”, gathered around the outgoing president, Claude Térouinard (Brou), retains at least the same seat, with eight elected pairs, which assure him the absolute majority, that is to say sixteen seats out of thirty. The right-wing minority group in the Department, “Union pour les Euréliens” (UPE), retains seven advisers after the election. The other elected officials are listed as various right or center-right.

This composition of the Department then suggests a re-election of Claude Térouinard, who has on paper an absolute majority, likely even to expand. But this “third round”, four days after the final results of the ballot box, reserves a surprise. A real thunderclap in the hemicycle of Place Châtelet.

Against the forecasts, the outgoing president of the Departmental Council, Claude Térouinard, 84 years old and candidate for his own succession, was dethroned by Christophe Le Dorven, departmental advisor of Dreux 1 (LR, Union for Euréliens). 43-year-old Drouais Christophe Le Dorven introduced himself and therefore overturned the table by taking the reins of the Departmental Assembly, in which he has sat since 2015.

In this fratricidal fight between elected representatives of the right and the center right, the camp of the Union for Euréliens won against the support of Claude Térouinard. The new president has managed to rally behind him former supporters of Claude Térouinard.

The regional elections were organized at the same time as the departmental ballot, on June 20 and 27, 2021.

François Bonneau, outgoing socialist president of the Center-Val de Loire region, was largely re-elected with more than 39.1% of the vote.

In Eure-et-Loir, François Bonneau also came first in the second round. His list (PS-PCF-EELV-LFI), the result of the merger with that carried in the first round by the ecologist Charles Fournier, came in first position with 33.2%.

With a very comfortable lead of 6.5 points on the RN list, led by Aleksandar Nikolic.
