The doctor in Prague went to the opiates like a shop, he wrote prescriptions for a bottle even for the dead

Prague criminal investigators have had information about a suspected general practitioner’s office in Strojnická Street since last year. “In at least six months, he was able to prescribe 218 prescriptions for 440 packs of unnamed medicine, which is 13,220 tablets. This is many times more pharmaceuticals than is common for general practitioners in the given locality, “said police spokeswoman Lucie Drábková on Friday.

According to investigators, the 63-year-old doctor wrote prescriptions for opiates, his “customers” giving him money or alcohol for it. The investigation showed that the vast majority of people go to the surgery with a diverse criminal history associated with drugs. “In some cases, prescriptions were issued to a person who was no longer alive or was serving a custodial sentence at the time,” the spokeswoman said.

Police detained three other people in connection with the case. “They went to the doctor for prescriptions like they went to a roll shop. They continued to resell opiates, bringing their earnings to 30,000 a month. From the course of the examination, it can be assumed that the final amount of drugs provided by the doctor will probably be many times higher, “added Drábková.

The doctors were accused of illicit handling of psychotropic substances, and given the circumstances of the case, the police suggested taking him into custody, which the court agreed to. The doctor faces up to ten years in prison.
