The districts and neighborhoods of Murcia light their ‘solidarity pots’ | Radio Murcia

He mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, visited this morning La Olla de Alquerías and the Solidarity Food of Santa María de Gracia, two solidarity projects that have recently opened to distribute food to families with fewer resources during the pandemic.

“Generosity and solidarity define Murcians, as once again the residents of districts and neighborhoods are showing us by starting initiatives like these, bringing daily menus to the families that need them the most in these hard times “, José Ballesta stressed.

The generosity of local companies and neighbors is what is making it possible for these solidarity initiatives to succeed. The promoters have been, in Alquerías, the Taberna El Saro and, in Santa María de Gracia, the VX Murcia Rugby Club next to the Asadero de Pollos neighborhood. The City Council collaborates through different entities such as Mercamurcia.

Specific, More than 200 stews a day are being distributed to vulnerable families from the Alquerías Soup Pot from the districts of Alquerías, Zeneta, El Raal, Cañada Hermosa and Los Ramos, dishes prepared in the kitchen of the Taberna El Saro.

In this solidarity project, launched last week with the aim of feeding 80 families with limited economic resources – a number that is increasing every day – Civil Protection volunteers and two pizzeros from a local in El Raal are participating (Boca Pizza).

Lentils, chicken stews and beef stews come out of the kitchen of El Saro, among other spoon dishes, which make menus with salad, first and second courses and dessert. Neighbors and local companies have also joined this initiative by donating food. Those interested in contributing products to this project should contact the numbers 968 81 15 42 or 690 12 60 44.

The Food for Solidarity project has recently opened in Santa María de Gracia, promoted by the VX Club de Rugby Murcia, with which more than 200 daily rations are being distributed to low-income families.

For its start-up, the Chicken Broiler of Santa María de Gracia has given up its kitchen – full kitchen and cold room – and the Scouts Cruz del Sur group has donated the necessary pots and utensils. Likewise, volunteers from the XV Murcia Rugby Club are participating. The Little Sisters of Charity have also joined the Solidarity Meal of Santa María de Gracia, contacting the most vulnerable families.

This initiative was born from the Puente Tocinos Solidarity Food, where more than 260 people are distributing dishes made at the Mesón Don Pancho.

Both those interested in donating and requesting that food be provided can contact the organization by calling 686 610 685 or by writing to [email protected].

Those interested in donating food to the Solidarity Food project of Santa María de Gracia must follow the following protocol of action:

-Store products in boxes (lentils, potatoes, carrots, garlic, onions, fried tomato, macaroni, beans, rice, chickpeas or oil).

-Contact the organizers by phone 686 610 68 or by contacting [email protected].

The volunteers who participate in this solidarity project will go to the indicated addresses to collect food, sending them to the Asadero de Santa María de Gracia kitchen.

Cleaning products can be donated to this initiative, which are necessary to maintain proper hygiene in the facilities for the duration of the project, as well as paper or plastic bags to pack the food.

Also, families can make financial donations, which will be used to purchase products such as meats and ‘tuppers’.

2,000 menus a month

In parallel form, the City Council delivers more than 2,000 menus a month through the Food Delivery Service – from which 239 users benefit– which has been reconfigured in the face of the health crisis, keeping service contracts 100% active and expanding its coverage in the face of any urgent care demand.
