The Decline of the Russian Aviation Industry: Consequences of Losing Western Technology

The Russian aviation industry is rapidly dying, having lost access to Western technology.

In the first six months of 2023, the Russian aviation industry has produced only two new civil aircraft. This is a disaster for such a large country as the Russian Federation.

Russian resource reported about the problems of Russian aviation Air Mediareferring to the official data of Rosstat.

This year, the Russians were able to produce only two heavy civilian aircraft weighing over 15 tons: the first in February, the second in June.

In general, the aviation industry of the Russian Federation is going through its worst times today. Due to the war against Ukraine and sanctions, the country was cut off from Western technologies and equipment, which almost completely paralyzed not only the production of new aircraft, but even the repair of old ones. Russian airlines today are forced to dismantle some of their aircraft for parts in order to be able to repair other aircraft.

Experts believe that by 2026 Russia may lose more than 730 aircraft, which is a disaster for such a large country. Communication between regions will deteriorate.

The Russians have huge problems with the release of the “analogue” Superjet-100 aircraft. In May 2023, the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Romanov, informed the public that instead of the planned 19 sides of this model, only 6 would be built.

It is significant that the Superjet-100 does not enjoy great confidence among the Russians. Even before a full-scale war and sanctions with these sides It happened several fatal accidents, which revealed very serious technological problems with aircraft of this model. Many Russians refuse to fly when they find out that the flight will be operated by a Russian Superjet.

Russia also has grandiose problems with the Il-114-300 passenger planes. By 2030, the United Aircraft Corporation, according to the contract, must produce 70 liners of this model. However, apparently, it will not be invested in time due to problems with the engine, which needs to be improved.

Earlier, Dialog.UA reported that during the mutiny, Prigozhin’s militants managed destroy a very valuable aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.

We also wrote that the Russian Federation is threatened with the loss of SSJ 100 aircraft: the Chemezov corporation does not want to be responsible for engine failures.
