The Decline of Russia’s Shipbuilding Industry: Outdated Equipment and Loss of Technology

While the Kremlin was spending billions on aggression against Ukraine, the shipbuilding industry in the Russian Federation was dying.

The shipbuilding industry in Russia is hopelessly outdated. Shipyards building ships, including for the Russian army, still use machines manufactured almost 100 years ago.

This was frankly stated on September 28 by the head of the board of directors of the United Shipbuilding Corporation of the Russian Federation (USC), Russian banker Andrei Kostin, after a trip to the factories, Dialog.UA reports.

Kostin, having inspected factories in St. Petersburg, Russia, was horrified by how outdated the equipment they used was. He discovered on the trip that Russia was still benefiting from the legacy of Hitler’s Germany in shipbuilding.

Yesterday I was at three enterprises in St. Petersburg, the machines there are working, but not all, fortunately, but many are from 1932. Production – Germany, exported for reparations, respectively. And there people proudly say: “Here we have a machine, it’s 90 years old.”. – I speak: “Well, this is not a historical monument”“- complained a representative of the Putin regime.

Let us note that the modern Russian Federation is significantly inferior even to the Soviet Union in the production of ships, not to mention the advanced countries of the world. Much technology has been lost over the past 20 years that dictator Vladimir Putin has been in power.

The industry began to die out even more actively due to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The military invasion was followed by sanctions that paralyzed the import of foreign components into the Russian Federation. Russia is not able to build ships without them.

Previously Russia allowed a major mistake – economists are sounding the alarm.

We also wrote that in the Russian Federation start Planes break down en masse – the risk of disaster due to sanctions is growing.
