The virologist Luis Enjuanes is behind the Spanish CSIC vaccine, the first inhaled vaccine and that will arrive by 2022. During the World Pandemic Forum held in Madrid, he has been in favor of implementing restrictions only for the unvaccinated.
“If you do not get vaccinated, you cannot go to public centers and the Spanish Social Security should not take charge of your treatment if the virus causes health problems”, statements that are gaining more and more force in more sectors and in more countries, with restrictive measures for this group that puts others at risk.
Epidemiological situation in Spain
In Spain89% of the Spanish target population has the complete vaccination schedule; 90.7% have a dose, data that places Spain at the head of Europe. A fact to add to that highlighted by the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, who stated on Friday that about 60% of those admitted to intensive care units are patients who had not been vaccinated.
He has also clarified that “the territorial distribution is not exactly the same”, and there are in some communities where this data “is above and in others below”, a logical data taking into account the difference in population in the different communities.

“The pandemic that Spain is experiencing now is that of the unvaccinated,” said the Spanish virologist in an interview with RNE, who also added that officials should be vaccinated. “If you don’t get vaccinated, you can’t work for the government,” a policy that in the United States is already effective for teachers, the military, and the police.
