The deceased chef on board the ship with COVID is Bulgarian

The deceased cook on board the ship “Tsarevna” is a Bulgarian, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTS) told BTA. There was a crew of 18 on board the vessel, 17 of them Bulgarians and one Ukrainian. Earlier today, it became clear that the prosecutor’s office in Varna is investigating the death of the chef of the ship flying the Maltese flag. The vessel is on a raid in the Bulgarian port. The chef died tonight.

The ship is currently being disinfected, and then an investigator and a forensic doctor will inspect it.

The health services have been notified in order to take measures for the other crew members, as well as to prevent the spread of the infection.

The Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” Varna received the signal for the incident from the agent of the ship Sea Parthner Ltd last night at 23.35. The Ministry of Transport and Communications also informs that the ship is at anchor for supply and change of crew at 23.05 on December 30 in Varna Bay.

The investigative bodies, the Regional Health Inspectorate and the National Board for Investigation of Air, Water and Railway Accidents have been notified and the necessary actions have been taken to clarify the case.

The rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 performed today have identified 13 positive individuals who, together with their contacts from the crew, will be isolated in their homes with a prescription from RHI – Varna. Final disinfection of the ship was ordered after the crew left.

The epidemiological study continues, according to the Health Inspectorate.
