The daring murder of an athlete in Ust-Kamenogorsk: what eyewitnesses say

news-id-118458" style="display:inline;">Residents of the house near which the athlete from Ust-Kamenogorsk was shot and killed told the details of what happened, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports.

The murder of a 34-year-old man occurred on January 13 near a multi-storey building in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Arriving police found a body at the entrance of the house. The moment of the murder was captured on video, which went viral online. Later it became known that the deceased was a well-known athlete in the region, Elyer Yunusmetov.

Yunusmetov’s neighbors told a Tengrinews.kz correspondent that on January 13 at about 15:00 they heard shots near a neighboring house. Ust-Kamenogorsk residents are still perplexed as to how the criminal committed a crime in a crowded place where CCTV cameras are installed.

“The windows of my apartment just overlook the crime scene. When I heard the shots, I looked out the window. I looked – a guy was lying on the well, he was covered in blood, blood was literally coming out of his mouth like a fountain. It was as if he was exhaling blood… Traces of blood before are still visible at the entrance…” recalls Boris Bychkov, a resident of the house near where the shooting took place.

According to another eyewitness, Natalya Zinchenko, the police and ambulance arrived very quickly, but, most likely, the injuries were initially incompatible with life.

“As I was wearing socks, I ran out onto the landing at the entrance, because it was immediately clear that it wasn’t fireworks or firecrackers. I saw through the window that a man was lying on the well with a bloody face. The neighbors immediately started calling the police and an ambulance. They arrived very quickly, the police about four minutes later, the ambulance about six minutes later. We have cameras everywhere, by the time the police arrived we already knew the number of the car in which the suspect left, all the data, including the video itself, was transferred to the police “- says Natalya Zinchenko.

The police confirmed that it was thanks to CCTV cameras that the suspect, who drove away from the crime scene in a white car, was detained in a matter of minutes.

“Patrol squads were immediately dispatched to this fact, and within 10 minutes the suspect was detained. A pre-trial investigation has been launched into this fact, the circumstances of the incident are being established. Other information, in accordance with Article 201 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, is not subject to disclosure,” said the deputy head of the criminal police department DP East Kazakhstan region Zhandos Imanbaev.

The daring crime shocked the residents of East Kazakhstan region. Versions began to be put forward on social networks, one of them was murder motivated by jealousy. However, Elier Yunusmetov’s neighbors deny this version.

“We all live nearby, you can immediately see what kind of relationships everyone has in the family. The neighbor is very good, very kind, responsive, he will always talk, say hello, ask how things are. He has a family, his son is one year and nine months old, his wife is young, very a friendly girl. They come home from work, take the child by the hand and go for a walk…” said Natalya Lyakhova.

Elyer Yunusmetov born in 1990. He was born in the village of Ulken Naryn, Katon-Karagay district.
