“The Dangers of Holding Pee and Other Bad Urination Habits: Advice from a Urologist in Jakarta”

Jakarta

Pee, aka urination, is the body’s natural mechanism for removing waste. Even though it has become a daily routine, it turns out that there are several mistakes that are often made regarding peeing and can be bad for health.

One of them is the habit of holding pee for too long. There are times, it is unavoidable because the situation does not allow us to go to the restroom immediately. But doing it too often and overdoing it can be dangerous.

Evan Goldfischer, a urologist, likens it to a pool that stagnates and then grows algae and bacteria. Likewise, the bladder can become a den of infection if it holds urine for too long.

“Contrary to popular belief, urine is not sterile,” he told Today.com.

Some other bad habits are:

1. Unfinished

Just like holding pee, not completely when pee also leaves a ‘puddle’ which becomes a nest for microbes to develop and increase the risk of infection.

However, incomplete urination is not always intentional, there are also causes that are often not realized, namely urinary retention. The causes include blockages, the effects of certain drugs, and also infections.

2. Ngeden

Having to strain or strain to force pee is not a normal condition. Supposedly, the most natural pee is in a relaxed state and the urine flows freely.

Frequent urination when urinating can indicate damage or obstruction called benign prostatic hyperplasia. The impact is swelling of the prostate which causes the flow of urine to be slower.

Forcing pee can also cause hemorrhoids or hemorrhoids, and worsen hernia symptoms.
