The Covid-19 Storm Begins to Rage Again, Like World War!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The Covid-19 storm has hit the world again. Covid-19 cases in China and a number of European countries have increased again in the past week.

China has found nearly 200 local Covid-19 cases in just the past week. This made the country lock up three cities, as reported AFP Friday (29/10/2021).

After locking down Eijin City in Inner Mongolia Province and Lanzhou in Gansu Province, Thursday (10/28/2021), China locked down the city of Heihe in Heilongjiang Province. Some 1.6 million people have been ordered to stay at home and banned from traveling except urgently in the region that borders Russia.

In addition, city officials have also started testing all residents and tracing close contacts of infected patients. Bus and taxi services have been suspended and vehicles are not allowed to leave the city.

China yesterday reported 23 new domestic cases. This was about less than half of the previous day’s number.

Citing Worldometers, this addition brings the cumulative total of cases in China to 96,938 cases with 4,636 deaths. The latest case first emerged on October 17 from a tour group and spread to 11 provinces.

China is a world country that still applies a “zero case” policy. Very strict movement restrictions will be applied if Covid-19 is found.

Similarly, the surge in Covid-19 cases also hit a number of countries in Europe, where cases rose 18% last week.

In detail, Covid-19 cases have spiked sharply in the Czech Republic and Hungary. The seven-day average of cases swelled by more than 100% compared to the previous week.

Russia reported a record seven-day high averaging more than 35,800 new cases on Tuesday, or 10% more than the previous week. Ukraine also saw a 43% increase in average cases per week when compared to the previous week.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, other European countries such as Croatia, Denmark, Norway and Poland each also recorded an increase in their weekly average cases. Even more than 70%.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over.

“The number of reported global cases and deaths from Covid-19 is now increasing for the first time in two months, driven by continued increases in Europe that outweigh declines in other regions,” said WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

WHO technical lead for Covid-19, Maria Van Kerkhove also said that WHO had found Delta Plus in 42 countries. He warned that this variant could mutate quickly in winter.

“Going into the winter months, where people tend to spend more time indoors, in close proximity, maybe in rooms where there is not good ventilation, cases will increase,” he said.
