– Ansa (ANSA) news agency reported on the 21st (local time) that a giant whale carcass was pushed into the vicinity of Naples in southern Italy, and environmental and animal experts began to investigate.
Reportedly, the whale, which was caught off the coast of Sorrento, a small town close to Naples, is believed to be a super-large whale weighing at least 70 tons and measuring 20 meters in length.
– The whale was first discovered by a diver of the Coast Guard on the 17th, and was lifted for three days before being moved to the land on the 20th.
Coast Guard divers said “the largest of the whales ever found in the Mediterranean.”
– At the time of its discovery, a small whale disappeared after exhibiting unstable behavior, such as banging itself against the wall of a port, and experts estimate it to be a baby of a dead whale.
Experts will autopsy the carcass of the whale to determine the exact cause of death.
