The collision of the train with the locomotive was probably caused by man. The driver is silent

It is clear that the freight train passed the “Stop” sign and the investigators had practically ruled out a technical fault on the locomotive.

“Of course, we will check not only how the driver drove this train, but also the procedures before the actual ride,” said Martin Drápal, spokesman for the Railway Inspectorate.

The driver either overlooked the signal or did not check sufficiently before driving that all braking systems were connected and functional. He managed to jump out of the locomotive before the impact.

According to information from TV Nova, he has so far refused to comment on the case to the investigators of the Railway Inspectorate, the Railway Administration and the police. He is well acquainted with their work procedures.

In addition to driving locomotives, he himself works as a railway incident investigator for Czech Railways. This will make accident investigation more complicated and may take longer.

Tuesday’s railway accident still partially restricts traffic between Jihlava and Brno. Workers are still repairing the damaged track. The damaged locomotive from the freight train was not able to get to the tracks until late in the evening.

The damage on both damaged locomotives and the railway line climbed to almost 8 million crowns.
