The Carraízo reservoir is six centimeters from entering the control level

The Carraízo reservoir of the Water and sewage Authority (AAA) woke up this Monday with 37.26 meters of water, which means that it is only 6 centimeters away from entering the control level that begins at 37.20 meters.

Although rains are expected today for some parts of the island, they will not be for the sectors of the Carraízo basin. The meterologist Fernanda Ramos of National Weather Service (SNM) pointed out that it will not be until Wednesday or Thursday when a tropical wave arrives that could leave significant accumulations of water in the towns of the eastern interior.

However, the expert stressed that as vigorous this wave may be, it may not be enough to alleviate the water deficit in the reservoir.

“We cannot advance if it will help us with the situation of the Carraízo reservoir, since we need a very significant and recurring activity in that area”, established.

The reservoir has been in operational adjustments since June 16, so it could enter control level just two weeks after entering its current phase. The level of control means that the AAA will have to start making scheduled service interruptions to extend the life of the reservoir.

The public corporation called a press conference for today at 1:00 pm at its headquarters in Hato Rey to detail its action plan for the rain deficit.

If an interruption plan for the Carraízo reservoir comes into effect, some 180,000 subscribers would be affected between the towns of San Juan, Trujillo Alto, Carolina, Canóvanas and Gurabo.

Another of the reservoirs facing water deficit is that of Cidra, which woke up today with 401.5 meters of water, thus being located just five centimeters from reaching the level of operational adjustments.

The Guajataca reservoir was also suffering from the effects of the drought, but it is moving away from the level of operational adjustments due to the recent rains that have benefited the northwest area. For example, today it has 193.35 meters of water.
