Coronavirus: a collective complaint will be filed against X this Tuesday

A collective complaint will be filed against X, Tuesday at 1 p.m., with an investigating judge of the Brussels parquet, concerning the management of the Covid-19 pandemic, announced on Monday the citizen initiative covidplainte.be.

Ten people will become civil parties, their complaints having been considered particularly solid. Among them are a nurse who had to work without protection and who contaminated his family, or a person who lost a loved one in a nursing home. More calls and emails have been received and other people who feel they are victims are being called upon to come forward after the covidplainte.be website is due to open soon.

“We wanted to make a tool for the people concerned so that they can defend themselves,” explains Véronique Dockx, active member of the collective. “The idea is to open a right so that all people, whatever their financial conditions, can be heard. (…) We are talking about a parliamentary committee, but that amounts to asking political leaders to investigate their shortcomings. We would like an independent judicial investigation to be carried out. “

The file that will be submitted has a hundred pages. It brings together different testimonies, in particular from disabled people or patients who presented to the hospital without receiving care. He calls into question shortages in different places, pointing for example to the sorting carried out in nursing homes or even denouncing the saturation of accommodation centers for the homeless and undocumented. Among other things, the citizens are asking the justice system to assess the authorities’ share of responsibility for the lack of masks, protective equipment and tests, and to answer certain pending questions relating to supplies. The collective is surprised, for example, that department stores were able to sell large quantities of masks overnight.

The purpose of the complaint against X is to be able to reach different levels of power in various chains of command. It relates in particular to complaints of lack of foresight, negligence and culpable abstentions, endangering the life of others and failure to assist persons in danger.

The Belgian collective, which currently has around thirty members, is in contact with the French initiative plaintecovid.fr. He hoped that a wider regrouping could be made between European countries.
