The Canary Islands registers 792 positives in people over the age of 60 and 12 deaths in the last week

The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands reports that since the latest data update last Friday, 792 new covid-19 positives have been registered in the archipelago among people over the age of 60, which is the population group which he monitors after the acute phase of the pandemic has passed.

Thus, the accumulated number of coronavirus cases in this group amounts to 106,517 people in the Canary Islands.

Therefore, the Accumulated Incidence for this age group at fourteen days stands at 308.90 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and at seven days at 154.45.

Currently in the archipelago there are 139 people hospitalized for coronavirus, of which seventeen in intensive care and the remaining, 122, in the ward.

In the last seven days, however, twelve deaths have been recorded, nine of which occurred in Gran Canaria and three in Tenerife.

All cases, aged between 59 and 97, had underlying conditions and were hospitalized.

The Minister of Health reports that from 12 August, and in compliance with the Resolution of 5 August of the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health, in calculating the number of beds occupied by patients affected by covid-19, the number of beds bed occupied by patients presenting with pneumonia or acute respiratory infection or other medical condition thought to be attributable to SARS-CoV-2 infection.
