Police on site but no investigation is underway while the ambassador of China in
Israel is dead. Du We, 57, who arrived in office in February, was found lifeless in his home in Herzliya, a posh city near Tel Aviv.
Police officers, including members of a unit of forensic pathologists, were in the afternoon in the villa, protected by a low wall and decorated with a golden plaque on which is inscribed “Official Residence” of the ambassador. The spokesperson for the policeMicky Rosenfeld said there was “no investigation into the death,” suggesting that the police were dismissing the crime. The police presence on site is part of “due process,” he said.
A medical source quoted by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz spoke of possible cardiac arrest. In Beijing, the foreign ministry said it would not comment until after it received “solid information.”
