Choi Min-jung wins the women’s 1000 meters silver medal
The Korean men’s short track speed track team won the gold medal in the 5000m relay in the first round of the ISU World Cup. “Short Track Empress” Choi Min-jeong (Seongnam City Hall) won a silver medal in the women’s 1000m and was relieved of her disappointment at not being able to win a medal in the 1500m, the main event the day before.
Jun-seo Lee (Korea National University), Kyung-hwan Hong, Yong-jin Lim (above Goyang City Hall) and Ji-won Park (Seoul City Hall) competed in the men’s 5000m final on the last day of the first round of the ISU Short Track World Cup 2022-23 held at the Morris Richard Arena in Montreal, Canada, on 31st (Korean time) she ranked first with a time of 7: 01.850. The Korean men’s team has changed a lot, including gold medalist Hwang Dae-heon at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics who was eliminated from the national team this season.
Korea took the lead from the start of the game and managed the race stably. Canada, who ran in second place with six laps to go, tried to overtake, but slipped and Korea remained in first place until the end. Kazakhstan (7: 07.972) was in second place and Canada (7: 12.997) in third. The Korean women’s relay was disqualified in the semifinals the day before and was unable to compete in the final.
Choi Min-jung finished 4th in the 1500m, the main event the day before, but won the silver medal in 2nd place (1: 31.815) in the second women’s 1000m race that day. Additionally, Gil-li Kim (Seo Hyun-go) took the bronze medal with a time of 1: 31.847 and Geon-hee Kim (Dankook University) finished fourth (1: 31.881).
The gold medal went to Choi Min-jung’s “rival” Shijaner Swheeling (1: 31: 717). In the revolving event, he showed his culminating prowess by earning three gold medals in the 1500m and 3000m relay races. In the women’s 500m final, Shim Seok-hee (Seoul City Hall) added a bronze medal in 43 070 seconds.
In the men’s 500m, Lee Jun-seo took the silver medal in 40 seconds 434. In the second men’s 1000m race, Kyunghwan Hong won the silver medal (1: 23.598) and Taeseong Kim (Dankook University) won the bronze medal (1: 24.561).
