the best electric car in the world?

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the S-class of the future. Does that also make it the best electric car in the world?

You can only expect the very best from a brand like Mercedes-Benz, but that has not yet been the case with regard to electric cars. For about five years, however, people in Stuttgart and the surrounding area have been busy developing the first proprietary platform for EVs, of which this EQS is the first result. With a WLTP range of up to 780 kilometers and the ability to draw in enough energy for 300 kilometers of driving in 15 minutes, the EQS finally performs properly.

Eivormig

It’s the most aerodynamic production car of all time, so it wastes as little energy as possible moving forward. It is therefore not a stately sedan, instead the EQS is a practical, egg-shaped hatchback with a huge and easily accessible trunk. Legroom in the rear is absolutely massive, headroom under the steeply sloping roofline adequate, but no more than that. In the front, as in almost every electric car, you sit fairly high, on extensively adjustable armchairs with massage function, but despite this, the all-round view is not great because of the small windows and thick A and C-pillars.

To compensate, optionally or not, the EQS has an arsenal of cameras and sensors to help prevent collisions and simplify parking. And from next year, with the Drive Pilot option, he should be able to drive Level 3 autonomously at least in Germany. So including taking over liability if something goes wrong, so that you can actually legally do something else in a traffic jam up to 60 km/h.

Outdated?

No prices for the EQS have been announced yet. It is expected that they will be approximately S-Class level. And judging by our first impressions, this car is well worth the price. But in this very fast developing market, it can also quickly become obsolete…
