The group “Židrūns” has been operating since 2003. The members of the group themselves believe that the three albums so far have been a compilation of compositions that have been slowly accumulating over several years, but the songs for the fourth studio recording have been made rapidly. The emergency situation and self-isolation introduced as a result of the coronavirus pandemic in the spring of 2020 gave Židrūnas an enthusiastic stage of creativity. Then most of the nine songs and compositions were created. The publisher of the upcoming album on vinyl and digital format is a music publisher “I Love You Records“.
“The album is an opportunity to pass on to future generations (God bless them!) The feelings and visions of our present encapsulated in pleasant sounds,” says Ulvis U, the bassist of the band. “vocalist Klāvs K.” It is such a strange feeling for me to think about the “Europeanisation” of the Baltic forest environment. As in Western Europe, the forests of our region increasingly see trees of the same species standing in rows naked. More and more people are seeing clear-cuts left behind by a tractor called a “harvester”. Life situations and money needs are different, but in my opinion, logging in the form of clear-cutting shows that a person has misunderstood his role on earth. “
The band’s “hysterical sound,” as music journalist Uldis Rudaks once put it, is also preserved in the new album. It is heard that “Židrūnas” has fresh musical inspiration from various types of rock and funk music from exotic countries. There are audible references to the mood and aesthetics of psych and stoner rock. In addition to electric guitars, bass guitars, drums and voice, you can hear the overtone, harmonies, electric organ and various percussions.
The author of the lyrics of a large part of the songs is Židrūns G. Some of the songs are written around bright poems, the authors of which are from the 20th century. Representatives of the generation of poets born in the 80s: Toms Treibergs, Kikne and Latgalian writer in Raibi. The design of the album was created by the artist Otto Zitmanis, who is also the author of the cover of the group’s previous album. The album was made with the financial assistance of the target program of the State Cultural Capital Fund “Support for Non-Academic Music”.
The band has not met with the listeners in a live concert since December 2019, so the long-awaited event for the participants will be the concert of the release of the album “Židrūns kovārņu grandchildren”, which will take place on October 30, in Riga. Venue information will be announced separately.
