The author Alain Delage member of the Academy of Nîmes

The Gajan author, Alain Delage, was received on Friday May 13 as a corresponding member of the Nîmes Academy.

This noble institution of the city of Antonins, endowed with letters patent in 1682, is one of the oldest provincial academies founded under the old regime.

If originally it was occupied by readings and discussions of literary works, it modified its centers of interest which lead it today, according to the statutes of 1888, to take care of works including “literature and fine arts, sciences and their applications from the point of view of public utility”.

Each year, the academicians elect corresponding members who contribute to its operation. However, in the promotion of 2022, the academicians chaired by the doctor of medicine Bernard Cavalier, assisted by the permanent secretary the engineer Alain Aventurier, four personalities had the honor of being called to this function. They are, in alphabetical order, the editor Yann Cruvellier, the professor of medicine Jean Ribstein, the magistrate Christophe Teissier and our fellow citizen Alain Delage.

In the presentation of the recipient from Gajan, President Bernard Cavalier mentioned the attachment to rurality that motivates Alain Delage in his writings and that it is “probably from this attachment to rurality, to its history, that came the taste of writing about these places that he loves so that the memory of what they are and were is not lost”to which the corresponding new member confirmed that “the key words that guide my ideals and that are really close to my heart are: research, exchange, enhance, share and transmit”.

It was then around a nice buffet that the exchanges which did not fail to arise between the newly elected members and the academicians present at this ceremony continued, which will remain marked in the minds of those who lived it.
