The artist Miriam Martínez Abellán brings four of her ‘collages’ to Bari

The blind artist Miriam Martínez Abellán participates from this Saturday in the collective exhibition ‘Vision and intuition, the reason for art’ that, until the 22nd, will host the Italian gallery Santa Teresa de los Machos, in Bari.

This international exhibition dedicated to analogue ‘collage’ brings together more than 130 original works and for which several works by Martínez Abellán have been selected. In the exhibition, in which artists from various countries take part – only two of them are Spanish – he reflects on the different ways of expressing emotions in art; a committed theme that highlights the need for culture and art in any society. The opening of the exhibition, at the headquarters of the Bari Art Biennial, coincides with the celebration of World Collage Day, a genre that Martínez Abellán frequently addresses in his work.

Reinvent meanings

The artist and teacher has a broad national and international exhibition career, as well as a long experience in cultural activities. Reinvent, transform and recycle meanings through ‘vintage’ style images.

The exhibition brings together more than 130 works by authors from different countries, of which only two are Spanish

For this occasion, the artist has selected four analogue ‘collages’ with suggestive titles: ‘The infinite look’, ‘Elliptical dream’, ‘Incandescence state’ and ‘Un piso en Saturno’. Within the conceptual, ironic and delicate line that characterizes his work, a dreamlike halo is glimpsed, the result of the search for harmony and beauty in his compositions. The vast number of artists who are currently exploring the ‘collage’ technique within the art scene is growing. This fact shows, in the artist’s opinion, “how inspiring and relevant collage is proving to be for contemporary art, ceasing to be a minor cut-and-paste art”.

Publication

On the occasion of this exhibition, the publication of a book is planned, which will bring together all the exhibited works, as well as information on the participating artists, textual contributions from experts, professors and art critics. This post will be translated into Italian and English.

The exhibition is sponsored by the City Council and University of Bari, as well as by the Italian Collagists Collective, coordinated by the artist and promoter of culture Roberta Guarna, and Miguel Gómez, professor at the University of Cambridge, as well as the Bibart Biennale Internazionale.

Among the last group exhibitions of Martínez Abellán within the Region are the samples ‘8’, in the Murcian studio Arquitectura de Barrio together with Carmen Baena, Virginia Bernal and Perla Fuertes, among other artists; and ‘Confinados’, at the Siyâsa Museum in Cieza, on the occasion of the presentation of the Association of Artists of Cieza, created last year. His work has also been the object of contemplation in the VI edition of the Brussels Collagists Festival, held in 2019. His ‘collage movie’ ‘Silencio IV’, in collaboration with the Italian Gio Croatto, has been included in the Hidden audiovisual platform. TV
