KATMANDU, May 8 (Xinhua) – Nepal prepares to receive a delivery of oxygen cylinders from China early next week as the Himalayan country faces severe oxygen shortage due to growing needs of patients with COVID-19, Nepalese government officials said on Saturday.
Nepal Airlines is expected to send a plane to China next Monday to collect the oxygen cylinders donated by China, officials said.
“If the schedule is not changed in the meantime, our plane will fly to China on May 10 and return the next day,” Tanka Nidhi Dahal, director of airlines, told Xinhua.
The delivery is part of oxygen cylinders to be supplied by China under an agreement between the two parties, officials from Nepal’s ministries of finance and health said.
In a recent video conference by Foreign Ministers of China, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka on COVID-19, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke announced that China will provide Nepal with a new batch of anti-epidemic supplies.
At present, the batch of supplies is almost complete and will be sent as soon as possible to Nepal, while local governments and sectors of Chinese society are also actively donating needed supplies to Nepal, the door said on Friday. -speak of Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbin.
The Nepalese government plans to distribute the oxygen cylinders provided by China to public hospitals, which are overwhelmed with patients infected with COVID-19 as the second wave of the epidemic leaves more and more people sick, said officials from the Ministry of Health. End
