The Armed Forces, Exercise | Warns of heavy military traffic

The Norwegian Armed Forces’ exercise Rein starts on Tuesday. This will lead to increased traffic and more heavy vehicles on the roads in Midt- and Sør-Troms. The Swedish Road Administration asks road users to be extra attentive.

These road sections are affected:

  • E6 between Setermoen and Lapphaugen
  • County road 851 from Brandvoll to Sjøvegan, including the loop around Prestbakkveien fv. 7812
  • Fylkesveg 84 Salangsverket – Sjøvegan – Tennevoll

– The practice activity may cause delays for other traffic on the affected roads. We ask road users to pay extra attention and calculate a little extra driving time, says section leader Siril Veiåker Nilsen at the Norwegian Road Traffic Center in a press release.

The exercise will mainly be on the sections E6 Setermoen – Bardufoss – Fossbakken and on to Sjøvegan.

There will be a number of military vehicles and convoys along these stretches of road and some of the side axes, and when there are also varying driving conditions, this can lead to traffic delays during the exercise period, and road users are encouraged to be extra attentive and patient and to calculate something extra driving time, reports the Norwegian Armed Forces.

– Exercise Rein is important for Brigade Nord to train the brigade system in winter combat, in close integration with allied forces. The exercise will contribute to increased joint training and interoperability, internally and with important partner nations, says Commander of Brigade North, Brigadier Pål Berglund.

Most departments start rolling out on the road in connection with exercise Rein 1 on 13 and 14 February, while the main part of the exercise lasts between 14 and 17 February.

The practice area will be marked with signs. The Norwegian Defense Forces asks other road users to be extra attentive during the period. The military police will also be visible along relevant roads.

The Swedish Road Administration encourages road users to check traffic reports at vegvesen.no/trafikk, and follow information provided about the exercise by the Norwegian Armed Forces and other authorities.
