The Apple Watch Ultra 2: Apple’s Most Expensive and Advanced Smartwatch for Extreme Activities

Uzone.id – The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is Apple’s most expensive smartwatch which was introduced at the Apple Event 2023 last night. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is priced at USD799 or the equivalent of IDR 12.2 million, twice as expensive as the standard Watch Series 9 variant.

However, the improvements that Apple has provided for its premium watches are quite significant.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 is powered by an Apple S9 system in package (SiP) processor, Double Tap control, second generation ultra wideband chip for better location tracking, so it can dive to a depth of 500 meters below sea level.

This watch has a different purpose compared to the Apple Watch Series 9. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is intended for sports or extreme activity enthusiasts, such as diving or climbing mountains.

To guarantee the durability of its new watch, Apple ensures that the Watch Ultra 2 has been tested to stay on even at a depth of 500 meters below sea level or 9,000 meters above sea level.

Coupled with watchOS 10 with a variety of fitness monitoring features and various exercises in it, users who enjoy extreme sports, especially those related to the sea, such as scuba diving, freediving, and other extreme activities, such as kitesurfing and wakeboarding, can use the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

All information from their activities will be displayed comprehensively on a 1.92 inch LTPO OLED screen with a flat design. The screen is more vivid than before, especially as the light intensity reaches 3,000 nits.

Apple COO, Jeff Williams said, this 3,000 nits screen is the brightest panel Apple has ever made. Not only is it clear, Apple is also presenting a new watch face called Modular Ultra.

This special watch face utilizes the large screen of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 by presenting real-time data, including time, altitude and depth information when the user dives.

This watch face offers the most complications of all Apple digital watch faces, making it perfect for outdoor activities.

So, so that all processes run smoothly without any obstacles, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is powered by the Apple S9 SiP processor which is claimed to be the fastest chipset for smartwatches now.

The performance is better, especially as there is an on-device Siri feature which allows the virtual assistant to respond to user requests quickly and more safely.

Not only is it faster, but the battery lasts longer too. Apple claims that the Watch Ultra 2 has a battery life of up to 72 hours in low-power mode.

New Double Tap control

Double Tap could be said to be a new innovation that was showcased quite a bit during the 2023 Apple Event. This is a solution if users find it too complicated to control their watch using the Digital Crown or Taptic Engine.

Instead of lifting your wrist and swiping the surface of the screen to interact, Double Tap only requires tapping your index finger and thumb twice simultaneously.

There are many actions that this gesture can apply, such as receiving or making a phone call, turning off an alarm, scrolling a widget, and so on.

The presence of Double Tap is thanks to neural engine technology which is faster than before. Plus, combined with a gyroscope and accelerometer, the watch can recognize the user’s hand movements when double tapping.

Other features

As mentioned above, watchOS 10 provides a variety of health and exercise monitoring features.

Most recently, this OS allows this smartwatch to connect to cycling accessories via Bluetooth to display training information that is more accurate than before.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is only available in one frame variant, namely 49 mm. There are various strap color options, such as Blue, Indigo, and Olive for the Alpine Loop model, Orange/Beige, Green/Gray, Blue/Black for the Trail Loop version, and Blue and Orange for the Ocean Band type.

This smartwatch is available from September 22, 2023.
